Lymphocyte phenotype during severe sepsis and septic shock

چکیده
Introduction Two major immuno-inflammatory phases are well documented during sepsis: an early active inflammatory phase regulated followed by a deactivated inflammatory phase leading to immunosuppression. Innate immunity, such as monocyte HLA-DR expression (mHLA-DR), has been shown constantly and rapidly decreased. Adaptive immunity modifications have been reported, this appeared less documented, particularly in comparison with healthy volunteers which have been rarely reported.

Sepsis is the systemic response to severe infection in critically ill patients. Sepsis, septic syndrome & septic shock represent the increasingly severe stages of the same disease. Despite the remarkable improvements in outcome, sepsis & septic shock remain an important cause of morbidity & mortality in children. This is a retrospective study among the patients who were admitted in the pediatri...
متن کاملOptimal Aminoglycoside Therapy Following the Sepsis: How Much Is Too Much?
Severe sepsis and septic shock are major problems as the result of high rates morbidity andmortality in intensive care units (ICUs). In the presence of septic shock, each hour of delay inthe administration of effective antibiotics is associated with a measurable increase in mortality.Aminoglycosides are effective broad-spectrum antibiotics that are commonly used in ICUs forthe treatment of life...

متن کاملMobilization of leukocytes in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock is associated with increased apoptosis, as detected by Annexin V binding
Methods: Over a 6 month period, 33 patients with severe sepsis or septic shock were studied in the intensive care unit. Annexin V binding by leukocytes was determined daily using flow cytometry and FITC-labeled Annexin V. Transient leukocytosis, or peaks in leukocyte counts, were defined as individual increase of at least 30% within 2 days, followed by a decrease of at least 30% within the foll...
متن کاملCD4+ lymphocyte adenosine triphosphate determination in sepsis: a cohort study
INTRODUCTION Patients suffering from sepsis are currently classified on a clinical basis (i.e., sepsis, severe sepsis, septic shock); however, this clinical classification may not accurately reflect the overall immune status of an individual patient. Our objective was to describe a cohort of patients with sepsis in terms of their measured immune status. METHODS Fifty-two patients with sepsis ...
